York and back to Ipswich

York

Leaving Scotland, the three of us headed towards the city of York in Northeast England. York is a historic walled city that has played an important role in England (and even the Roman empire) since about 71 AD. Walking around York was almost like walking around a living museum.

This is where we parted ways with Sally (who is going to study in the USA) with a promise to all come back to England for Christmas!

York Minster, the second-largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe. Construction began in 1220, even though previous cathedrals have stood on the site since the 6th Century AD

Leaving Sally at the train station, we drove further south to Leceister (which is a hole and not worth taking any photos of) where teary-eyed, we returned our trusty rental car, Henry and met up with Kelly to spend our last few English days in Ipswich again!

Back to Ipswich

Needless to say, we were pretty tired after our month spent travelling around the UK. It was good to get some "downtime" again in familiar territory. Kelly and Rob took great care of us and showed us the best that Ipswich had to offer. It had been a few years since I'd seen Rob (in Australia) and this time he had hair! Funnily enough the last time we'd seen each other, I had dreadlocks too.

And that's it! Our British adventures drew to a close. After a couple of days in Ipswich, we boarded our flight from Stansted Airport out of the English-speaking world into the "unknown" world of Sweden.
