The bulk of the train ride from Copenhagen to Oslo takes place in Sweden. The fact that we had to change trains in Göteborg (Gothenburg) meant that we got to see 3 countries in 1 day. And not just that - 3 major cities in 3 countries in one day.

Much of Southern Sweden (especially the Skåne region) resembles Denmark - flat land, quaint farm houses and not many trees. The route from Copenhagen to Gothenburg is a well-travelled route and so we didn't even need to reserve seats on the train.

The views were great from the train
Arriving in Gothenburg, we had a few hours to kill so we wandered abit around the city. Gothenburg is Sweden's second largest city with a population of around 500,000. It enjoys a healthy rivalry with Stockholm and boasts the largest university in Scandinavia, Gothenburg University. It also happens to be the only city in Sweden that kept its trams.

Is there a city in Europe that DOESN'T have canals?
Once again, the weather was great

Unfortunately we didn't have time to check out the great beaches around Gothenburg (not that we could have swum anyway) but we thought we'd have a peek at the harbour.

Eventually we wandered back to the train station and climbed aboard our next train, this time run by the Norweigan carrier, NSB. The trains were even more plush!
Making myself comfortable
An announcement was made when we crossed the Norweigan border
As luck would have it, we bumped into some fellow Aussie travellers aboard our train, Patrick and Steph. Chatting the whole way made the 7 hour train ride seem like 2.

It was raining cats and dogs when we arrived in Oslo. We were staying with friends in the suburb of Nadderud so we had to quickly figure out the bus system when we arrived. Trying to get orientated in a new city is always hard when you first arrive. Though cold and substantially wet, we were glad to have made it to the world's most expensive (and richest) country.
We had to change busses a couple of times
We eventually found our way to Arne and Anita's place and were soon warming ourselves up in front of a lovely fireplace!
Hi Pigs! We're Nat and Candice Kitingan and this is our round-the-world travel blog. We're from Melbourne, Australia and between June 2008 and February 2009 will be visiting Oceania, North America, Europe and Asia. The bulk of our time will be spent in Uppsala, Sweden where Candice is studying for a semester (Uppsala Universitet). During this time, Nat will probably just loaf around or he might even get a part-time job.
